Purpose Statement

The purpose of this educational web page is to enlighten expecting parents of  the dangers of preeclampsia, or gestational high blood pressure, for both the carrying parent* and developing fetus.

*'Carrying parent' and/or 'pregnant parent' are the gender inclusive terms that will be used throughout this webpage. The human experience is limitless, why should parenthood be any different?

Symptoms of Preeclampsia

Preeclampsia is another term for high blood pressure and is one of the most common medical complications all types of carrying parents can be diagnosed with (Adorno et al, 2022). Some of the following symptoms are expected in pregnancies but if two or more of any of these ailments manifest together  then it may be cause for concern.

Upset Stomach

Feeling nauseous to the point of vomiting (Mayo, 2022).

Altered Vision

Blurry or unfocused vision (Mayo, 2022).

Headaches

Painful and relenting headaches (Mayo, 2022).

Stomach Pain

Pain focused on the upper stomach or rib cage (Mayo, 2022).

Shortness of Breath

A build up of fluid in your lungs may make it difficult to catch your breath (Mayo, 2022).

Kidney and Liver Pain

Pain in or around your kidneys or liver (Mayo, 2022).
